Teachers training in Italy, Florence under the "Enterprising Teacher" project.

In 2020, the project manager of the Jõhvi Russian Basic School wrote an international project "Enterprising Teacher", which received financial support from the European Union program aimed at promoting cooperation in the field of teacher education and vocational training (Kooli töötajate õpiränne). Due to the pandemic, the project had to be extended by six months and the basic training of teachers was only possible in 2021. From 4 to 18 April, teachers of our school took part in this exciting and informative event.

Training at the Europass Teacher Academy in Florence, Italy lasted two weeks and consisted of two courses:

1.         A Project Management System for a Better Quality of Teaching

2.         A European School for All Children.

The language of instruction was English.

The wonderful teachers Roberta Begliomini and Layla Dari made our learning time very interesting and fulfilling.

In the course " A Project Management System for a Better Quality of Teaching ", we learned what a project management system is, which includes many different aspects and many things that need to be monitored and taken further. We have to determine project tasks, create a schedule, assign resources and identify and track issues and risks. That’s just the tip of the iceberg; as a project manager, you are responsible for the overall success of a project. We worked out the direction "How can you successfully track all those different aspects of a project" and studied the topics:

Communication tools,
marketing,
stakeholders,
partnerships and Fundraising,
managing multiple initiatives and cooperative collaborations.

Roberta talked about the difficulties you can face at different stages of the project. At the end of the first training, teachers were able to present projects that they had written in a week.

During the second course "A European School for All Children" teacher Laila Dari talked about aspects of an inclusive class, discussed how to manage a multicultural, diverse, diverse class, including minorities and students with different educational needs. In the modern classroom, it is important for teachers to be able to identify and propose unique learning solutions and adapt traditional teaching methods to the needs of their students, ensuring universal access to the curriculum.

The course was devoted to three areas:

How to shape lessons and the learning environment in order to establish complete equality in access to education for all students, whilst developing a crucial understanding in students of the need for democratic and non-discriminatory values;

How to use simple ICT tools to empower all students in an inclusive environment and also develop their intercultural awareness in the increasingly diverse contemporary classroom;

How to promote collaborative learning and prepare teachers for future European and international projects.

We were introduced to new, interesting platforms. For example, with such as:

The project turned out to be very informative. The teachers received a lot of useful information, wrote two projects that will be implemented, discussed the motivation of students and teachers in a modern school learned about how the education system in Italy is built.

On the last day of the project, a tour of Florence was planned. A wonderful guide, Tatiana Maiskaya, told that Florence is famous for works of art and architecture of the Renaissance. The teachers admired one of the main attractions of the city - the Duomo Cathedral. We learned that among the exhibits of the Academy Gallery one can note the sculpture "David" by Michelangelo. The Uffizi Gallery contains "The Birth of Venus" by Botticelli and "Annunciation" by Leonardo da Vinci, etc.

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic in Italy, a lockdown was announced and all museums were closed. But it is not for nothing that Florence is called an open-air museum. Each building is unique! History blows from every corner. And we became a part of it!

Feedback from project participants:

It was a wonderful trip to Florence, because I got to know not only the Italian education system, but I  was also able to study under Italian teachers. We were introduced to inclusive education, what a 21st-century school is like, how to write projects, and what methods and information technology resources can be used to teach modern students. I was also able to meet with the culture, sights, and beauty of Florence itself in the wonderful company of my colleagues.

In the courses, we learned in great detail how to write projects, starting with an idea and ending with a finished product. We learned a lot of new educational Internet platforms, learned how to use them. Once again we were convinced of the effectiveness of learning through practical activity. It was very interesting to get acquainted with the educational system of Italy, to learn from the experience of colleagues from another state. Visit Florence and expand your own horizons.

From April 4 to 18, six teachers from our school stayed in beautiful Florence, Italy, as part of the Entrepreneurial Teacher project.
Our training consisted of two modules. In the first module, “A Project Management System for a Better Quality of Teaching,” we learned under the guidance of teacher Roberta Begliomin to plan and assign project tasks, schedule, assign resources, and identify and monitor project problems and risks. We worked in groups and by the end of the module we had two great projects that we hope to implement in our school.
In the second module, A European School for All Children, we learned under Layla Dari how to manage a multicultural and diverse classroom, including minorities and students with different educational needs. We learned how to use simple ICT tools to engage all students in an inclusive environment and to develop their intercultural awareness in an increasingly diverse modern classroom. We learned how to use different web platforms in teaching.
In our free time we got to know the sights of beautiful Florence. Since we ended up in Florence when all the museums and churches were closed, we walked around the city a lot and admired the beautiful architecture, such as the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Church of Santa Croce, Signoria Square and the Loggia dei Lanzi outdoor galleries. Wonderful views of the city and the Arno River opened from the beautiful Michelangelo Square. An unforgettable experience was offered by a visit to the mountains, from which an enchanting view of the surroundings opened up.
